# Elasticsearch

To create an Elasticsearch Depot you must have the following details:

## Pre-requisites specific to DataOS

To create a Depot, you need the Data Admin role. Contact the DataOS Operator or Tenant Admin to get it.

Run this command to see your assigned roles.

## Pre-requisites specific to the source system

* **Username**: The username used to authenticate and access the Elasticsearch cluster. This is typically created and provided by the Elasticsearch admin during user setup or role assignment.
* **Password**: The password associated with the Elasticsearch username for authentication. This is set during account creation and can be obtained securely from the Elasticsearch admin if forgotten.
* **Nodes (Hostname/URL of the server and ports)**: The addresses of one or more Elasticsearch nodes, including the hostname or URL and the port (e.g., `node1.example.com:9200`). These nodes form part of the cluster and are used to establish the connection. This information can be retrieved from the Elasticsearch admin or by checking the cluster configuration details.

## Create an Elasticsearch Depot

A Depot of type `ELASTICSEARCH` connects to Elasticsearch and reads its documents for text queries and analytics. The Depot exposes every document visible to the configured user. To create a Depot of type `ELASTICSEARCH`, follow these steps:

### **Step 1: Create a Secret for securing Elasticsearch credentials**

Create a Secret Resource using the [Elasticsearch](/concepts/resources/secret/data-sources.md) guide.

### **Step 2: Create an Elasticsearch Depot manifest file**

Create a manifest file for your Elasticsearch Depot.

### **Step 3: Apply the Depot manifest file**

Apply the manifest with the DataOS CLI:

dataos-ctl resource apply -f ${{manifest-file-path}}
```

## Verify the Depot creation

Verify the Depot in two ways:

* List Depots where you are the owner:

  ```bash
  dataos-ctl resource get -t depot
  ```
* List all Depots in the current Tenant:

  ```bash
  dataos-ctl resource get -t depot -a
  ```

## Delete a Depot

To delete a Depot, use the DataOS CLI:
