# Custom

Connect any MCP-compatible LLM tool to Data Product MCP.

Connect any MCP-compatible LLM tool to Data Product MCP using streamable HTTP.

## What you need

Your DataOS instance URL, a client that supports streamable HTTP, and — if your client uses the API token method — a [DataOS API token](/consume/get-started/before-you-begin.md). See [API tokens](https://v2.dataos.info/references/key-concepts/api-tokens) for how tokens work.

## Connect

Configure your client with these values:

{% tabs %}
{% tab title="OAuth" %}

<table><thead><tr><th width="163.97381591796875">Field</th><th>Value</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>Server name</td><td><code>DataProduct-MCP</code></td></tr><tr><td>Transport</td><td>Streamable HTTP</td></tr><tr><td>URL</td><td><code>https://&#x3C;instance-url>/mcp/api/v1</code></td></tr></tbody></table>

Leave headers empty. Your client should prompt you to authorize in a browser window when you connect.
{% endtab %}

{% tab title="API Token" %}

<table><thead><tr><th width="163.97381591796875">Field</th><th>Value</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>Server name</td><td><code>DataProduct-MCP</code></td></tr><tr><td>Transport</td><td>Streamable HTTP</td></tr><tr><td>URL</td><td><code>https://&#x3C;instance-url>/dataproduct-mcp/api/v1</code></td></tr><tr><td>Header key</td><td><code>apikey</code></td></tr><tr><td>Header value</td><td><code>&#x3C;API_TOKEN></code></td></tr></tbody></table>
{% endtab %}
{% endtabs %}

You can copy these from **Home → Connect to Data Product MCP** in DataOS: open the config modal and select **Copy**. Then open your tool's MCP settings, add a server with the values above, save, and connect.

## Verify

Ask `What data products am I authorized to access?`. A working connection returns products scoped to your token and permissions. Next: [Discover in natural language](/consume/consume-with-ai/discover-in-natural-language.md).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://v2.dataos.info/consume/consume-with-ai/connect-a-client/custom.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
