# Provision Data Plane

The **Data Plane** is the execution layer. It lives inside the **customer's cloud**, close to their data sources, and connects to the **DataOS Instance** in the Modern Cloud.

Data Product workloads execute on the Data Plane, while the DataOS Instance coordinates their execution.

As an Operator, you provision the Data Plane at the Instance level in the System Tenant. Once provisioned, all Tenants on the Instance can attach to the Data Plane and draw Compute from it.
